Key Witnesses

Key Players

David Coffin Jr. – Coffin was the victim in the case. Coffin was dating Megan Davis (now Megan Bruton) in 1996 among women including Linda Moran, Jenny Jackson and others.

Coffin’s home was located at 951 W. Conway in Atlanta. His home was burglarized on 12//7/96 or 12/8/96 and his Porsche was stolen. Coffin’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the head on 12/10/96 in his burned home

Coffin’s autopsy showed metabolites of cocaine and a blood alcohol content of .22 in his blood. At his home, numerous weapons were found including the alleged murder weapon and an AK47.

Scott Davis – Scott is the innocent suspect in this case wrongly convicted of Coffin’s murder in 2006 10 years after the crime occurred. See Scott’s Bio for more information about Scott.

None of the physical evidence in this case has pointed to Scott’s participation in any of the crimes against Coffin as you can read about in the Missing Evidence section of this website. There is no DNA or eyewitness testimony that incriminates Scott in those crimes. In fact, fingerprints found at a crime scene were not Scott’s but were “lost” by the State along with 70+ other pieces of critical evidence.

Scott has alibis for some of the crimes as you can read about in the Scott Davis: Innocence Ignored section of this website.

Scott had never been arrested prior to this incident.

Megan Lee Bruton (formerly Megan Lee Davis) – Megan is Scott’s former wife who was at the time dating Coffin in 1996 while Scott and Megan were divorcing. Megan was also dating other men as well including Jimmy Baron the 99X DJ, Bill the “one-eyed Billionaire”, Dr. Jeff Reich (her former boyfriend whom Megan continued a relationship with during her marriage), and others.

Megan’s behavior and words during her marriage to Scott, during her divorce, during trial and continuing today have been untruthful, manipulative and are constantly changing to get what Megan wants.

Despite Megan’s claims, all the evidence clearly shows Megan was the first person to divulge that Coffin had died by a gunshot wound to the head. Zero evidence supports her claims that Scott told her this. Evidence also shows that Megan was unfaithful in her marriage to Scott, was trying to “stash” marital property at a friend’s house during the divorce to Scott and has continued to try and manipulate this case, the jury and witnesses to convict Scott at all cost.

See the Megan Bruton section of this website for more. Megan should be considered a suspect in this case.

Paul Howard – Howard is the Fulton Co. DA that has been responsible for this case since 1997. Howard’s testimony in this case has been inconsistent, not credible and antagonistic. See Howard’s testimony for details:

Howard has refused to investigate felony drug use in his office committed by his Senior Assistant DA Gayle Abramson in 2004 during her covert investigation of Scott in Atlanta and in California. Despite clear evidence of guilt (wiretap conversations and Abramson’s admissions), Howard has done nothing besides obstruct the investigation and bury his head to the misconduct. Despite Abramson’s admission of guilt, Howard still has not prosecuted Abramson and in fact made the statement that he doesn’t prosecute crimes in his office, he “fires them” in a clear double standard.

Howard has been ultimately responsible for the lost evidence in the case (much of it lost after Abramson’s crimes) and has done little to investigate the loss and has held no one responsible or accountable.

As well, Howard had a direct audio and video feed to his office of the proceedings and breaks of Scott’s trial without the knowledge of the court or the defense as detailed in an AJC news article. See the Prosecutorial Misconduct section for more details.

Detective Ricky Chambers – Chambers was the co-lead homicide detective in Scott’s case since 1996. Chambers’ involvement in the case has been filled with misconduct and constantly changing testimony.

Chambers interviewed Scott illegally the first nigh Coffin’s body was found on 12/10/96. Chambers interviewed Scott off tape and without his Miranda warnings, threatened Scott repeatedly with the death penalty and constantly started and stopped the interview tape later in a 2nd interview post Miranda. See Prosecutorial Misconduct for more.

Chambers has also been responsible for much of the missing evidence and claims to have never followed up on the crime scene fingerprints found on the burned Porsche over 9 years since they were not Scott’s despite their clear evidentiary value.

Chambers’s “dynamic” testimony can be read in the Evidence Vault or by clicking these links:

Chambers as well has done nothing to investigate the crimes of Gayle Abramson despite hearing the wiretap conversation.

Senior Assistant DA Sheila Ross – Ross has been the lead prosecutor on the case against Scott since 2004 when Paul Howard tasked her to head the Cold Case Squad. Ross has directed the team of prosecutors and police that have been responsible for much of the lost evidence including the Porsche fingerprints. Ross as well never bothered to run these fingerprints through AFIS to identify other suspects.

Ross as well has done nothing to investigate the crimes of Gayle Abramson despite running the wiretap where the credible allegations were heard. See Ms. Ross’ Testimony in the Brian Nichols Trial.

See the Prosecutorial Misconduct section of this website for more.

Former Fulton Co. Assistant DA Gayle Abramson – Abramson is the former ADA who secretly investigated Scott in this case and committed drug crimes of which she has admitted (See Gayle Abramson’s Interview Summary). Abramson was also the prosecutor in Brian Nichols’ original rape case during which he committed the horrendous courthouse shootings. Abramson is now married to the former prosecutor Rand Csehy who conducted the wiretap on Scott Davis in California with Det. Chambers. Abramson was also present in California.

See the Prosecutorial Misconduct section of this website for more.

Former Fulton Co. Assistant DA Rand Csehy – Csehy is the former prosecutor who conducted the wiretap against Scott Davis. Csehy was a specialist in narcotics prosecutions. Csehy as well admitted Abramson’s crime in his interview with Scott’s lawyers (See Rand Csehy’s Interview Summary). Despite these admission, Csehy vehemently denied the crimes in a press release in an attempt to falsely attack Scott.

Detective Marchel Walker – Walker was the co-lead homicide detective in the case with Chambers. Walker has also been specifically responsible for much of the lost evidence in the case. See the Missing Evidence section and the Prosecutorial Misconduct section for more.

Walker refused to show up twice to testify in the case despite being lawfully served.

Walker now though in 2018 has signed an affidavit admitting prosecutors withheld Brady evidence

Investigator Carter Jackson – Jackson was a Fulton Co. investigator assigned to this case with the Cold Case squad. Jackson handled the evidence in 2005 related to the missing fingerprints found on the Porsche. See Carter Jackson’s Testimony in the Motion for New Trial Hearing.

Bernadette Davy – Davy was the GBI evidence technician that claimed to have analyzed the alleged murder weapon in this case. Davy resigned in 2009 due to admissions that she falsely manipulated evidence-testing results or did not test evidence she said she did. See the AJC article on Davy’s resignation for more.

Linda Tolbert – Tolbert was the Atlanta Fire Dept. employee who signed for the receipt of the alleged murder weapon and 30+ other evidence items that are now missing without any explanation or documentation. Tolbert has offered no reason for the loss. See the UPS delivery sheet for more.

Other Witnesses

Click the names to see the following witnesses interviews

Jen Johnson – Megan’s childhood friend who Megan called first to divulge that Coffin has been “shot in the head” before anyone including the police knew how Coffin had died. Megan also admitted her infidelity and other indiscretions to Jen as well as asked Jen to “stash” silverware at her house to hide it in Megan’s divorce proceedings with Scott. These admissions are especially important because Jen and Megan were best friends and in each other’s weddings.

Michael Johnson – Michael is Jen’s husband and also witnessed Megan’s words and actions.

Craig Foster – Coffin’s close friend who heard Megan tell Scott, “Scott, David was shot” before anyone knew Coffin’s cause of death. Important because it shows Megan knew this knowledge and told Scott rather than Scott telling Megan. This is even more powerful because Foster is a hostile witness to Scott.

Patricia Flavin – Craig Foster’s former girlfriend who heard Megan tell Scott, “Scott, David was shot” before anyone knew Coffin’s cause of death. Important because it shows Megan knew this knowledge and told Scott rather than Scott telling Megan. This is even more powerful because Flavin (now Patricia Slavic) is a hostile witness to Scott.

Linda Moran – Coffin’s former girlfriend and fiancé who knew of prior burglaries at Coffin’s house. She also tried to tell police of other suspects in the case but was ignored.

Mark Kadish – Scott’s former lawyer who witnessed Abramson’s admission of guilt on the drug crimes. See Kadish’s Testimony in the Brian Nichol’s trial.

Jenny Jackson – Woman Coffin asked out on a date on 12/9/96 showing Coffin’s waning interest in Megan.

John Bissell – Coffin’s brother-in-law who witnessed Coffin’s cocaine use and also was allowed with his wife to collect evidence at the crime scene of Coffin’s burnt house. Bissell was allowed to take Coffin’s AK47 from the scene without testing.

David Henry – Scott’s co-worker at Andersen Consulting who was an alibi to prove Scott could not have burned Coffin’s Porsche on 12/10/96.

Lee Spitalnick – Scott’s co-worker at Andersen Consulting who was an alibi to prove Scott could not have burned Coffin’s Porsche on 12/10/96.
